Summary/objective:

Responsible for assisting the Safety Supervisor with ensuring compliance of all companywide safety and risk management programs.  Must be a knowledgeable and efficient hands-on safety resource to all operations company-wide.

  • Maintains Employer Pull Notice program (EPN) by enrolling or deleting drivers, and reviewing motor vehicle records
  • Responsible for maintaining driver qualification files by tracking expiration dates for required commercial driver documents (such as medical certificates, farm labor vehicle certificates, and driver’s licenses), as well as non-commercial documents
  • Reports vehicle code violations to upper management and tracks driver eligibility, identifying which drivers are eligible or ineligible for driving
  • Collects, reviews, and files all pre-trip inspections for harvesting and production
  • Maintains employee safety training records in compliance with the Injury and Illness Protection Program (IIPP)
  • Assist with receiving, reviewing, and promptly filing injury reports
  • Provides customer service to injured employees
  • Establishes and maintain with injured employees
  • Assists in maintaining OSHA injury/illness logs (300 and 300A)
  • Provides administrative/clerical support by typing correspondence, filing, and distributing documents
  • Assists with distribution of safety incentives
  • Guides, trains, and advises management on proper injury investigation techniques and completion of incident report forms
  • Assists in addressing safety-related complaints and report findings to the Safety Supervisor
  • Establishes and maintains a good rapport with management and all work associates
  • Responsible for maintaining excellent customer service in the HR Office Reception area
  • Occasional documented safety inspections/audits of operations and facilities
  • Assists with investigating employee/vehicle accidents, near misses, and health hazards
  • Position requires regular driving as an essential job function in overseeing and coordinating various aspects of the Safety process
  • Occasional safety walks and employee engagement
  • Assists departments in the determination of appropriate modified duty assignments
  • Conducts outreach visits to injured employees and their foreperson
  • Inspires a safety culture that creates a safe work environment throughout the organization
  • Consistent attendance is mandatory

Required education and experience:

  • Associate degree or combination of equivalent education and experience
  • Possess a strong foundation of knowledge in safety along with pertinent federal and state regulations/standards and required safety programs
  • Operation of standard office equipment, including personal computers, photocopier, fax machines and software such as Windows, Word and Excel
  • Bilingual and biliterate in English/Spanish
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively present facts and recommendations in oral and written form
  • Ability to keep skill set current
  • Organized team player who works well with a variety of people with a minimum of supervision
  • Thrive in a fast-paced environment and handle pressure while managing multiple tasks

Valid driver license and clean record

Preferred education and experience:

  • Safety related certifications
  • Knowledge of employee rights and employer responsibilities, pertaining to safety, arising under federal and state laws, including OSHA and other regulatory agencies
  • Experience with incident investigations, OSHA inspections.
